This edible aquatic plants grows in damp, waterlogged soil, and is great to grow underneath a tap, in a self-watering pot, or a bucket filled with soil! Packed with vitamins and minerals, watercress is super nutritious and can be used as as salad green, steamed, added to sandwiches or soups, very versatile and really easy to grow. Winter vegetables in early spring, florets of purple broccolini look very pretty against all the green foliage!
Broccolini, also known as broccoletti or sprouting broccoli produces smaller florets which can be continuously harvested, giving an extended cropping season. Cauliflower ready for harvest! The space below deciduous fruit trees in a food forest is great for growing cool season veggies! They look like miniature spiky candy apples, they are edible but have no taste at all.

This plant carpets moist shaded areas, more vigorously than strawberries,which can be a problem, but it suppresses the growth of weeds! Winter produce, cabbages growing below dormant fruit trees. Organically grown vegetables always look healthy, strong and vigorous! Turmeric root harvested late winter, either for use in the kitchen or for replanting to grow even more next year! This is but a mere handful of a much larger harvest, I've mastered growing turmeric in pots in a temperate climate!
Calla Lily flower in winter. These plants from South Africa appear in gardens on their own and spread from seeds and tuber fragments, if you want to enjoy the flowers and control the plant, remove some of the leaves to reduce the vigour and cut off spent flowers to prevent seeds forming. The tubers of the Calla Lily are toxic if eaten raw, but apparently are boiled by some South African tribes to provide a starch food.
